WordPress vs Wix – I’ve Used Both, Here’s What You Need to Know
Wix vs WordPress. What is the best option to create a professional website? Wix is an industry leading page builder, an all in one solution that manages your hosting, cms, products and website design with ease. WordPress by comparison has two versions. Their .com version which is their page builder and their .org version which is their open source CMS.
If you’re strictly comparing Wix to WordPress.com then it’s not much of a comparison. Wix costs roughly the same as a premium WordPress.com account but you get a lot more features like better control over your SEO as well as an unstructured page builder to customize the look, layout and design of your website. WordPress.com is good, but it’s more ideal for people who want to create blogs and don’t want to go through the self hosted route.
In order to get the same functionality you would with WIX with a WordPress.com account you would need to upgrade to their very expensive business plan. Which would then allow you to install quality plugins and any theme of your choice.
Last is WordPress.org. You can install the WordPress CMS on any shared hosting account with ease. There are multiple tutorials on how to do this on this channel. By getting a shared hosting account and your domain name from Namecheap you’ll have all the features you would have with WIX. In addition your startup costs will be lower and you can have multiple websites. Not just one on WIX.
The selling point for WIX obviously is that they want to be an easy to use, non technical solution for creative professionals who don’t want to learn how to manage their own hosting, domain name and content management system.
